South Jersey Lore Author Discussion: Friday, May 3 at Inkwood Books
We hope you will join us Friday, May 3, at 7 pm at Inkwood Books — located at 106 Kings Highway East — for a discussion of the new book SOUTH JERSEY LEGENDS & LORE: Tales from the Pine Barrens and Beyond, by local author William J. Lewis. Lewis will be talking about his new book with HSH Board President Jessica Lucas.
Learn about the local legends and lore of South Jersey pass down through generations. From the Pine Barrens to the Shore, the stories feature creatures like the Jersey Devil, characters like the hermit of Oswego Lake, and much more. Light refreshments will be served. All are welcome.
General Meeting & Speaker: May 22
Jane Peters Estes presents: The Battle of Gettysburg, Where were the Women? From the best known to the most obscure, this program discusses the many roles filled by women during the deadliest battle of the Civil War. With information gleaned from diaries, letters and newspapers of the period, many parts of this program a re told in the actual words of the women who have lived through the battle. This program is free and will be held May 22, 2024 at 7pm in the Lutheran Church on Wood Lane’s Hall.
HADDONFIELD SKIRMISH – Saturday, June 1, 10am to 3pm
The Skirmish is hosted by The Friends of the Indian King — a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization — which works to preserve and advance the Indian King Tavern Museum, the first New Jersey State historic site, and raise public awareness of the museum and its educational programs. There will also be interesting events leading up to the Skirmish including a debate between Thomas Jefferson and Alexander Hamilton. Here is a list of Skirmish Events.
“Roofs, Rails & Roots” HSH Garden Party:
Thursday, June 27 at 5 pm
To celebrate summer on our beautiful campus and introduce two significant upcoming projects, we’re holding an outdoor party in the Greenfield Hall Gardens on June 27 from 5 to 7 pm. The cost to attend is $30. We are raising funds to repair and restore the slate roof and balustrade on Greenfield Hall, as well as transport a historic train shed to the grounds of Greenfield Hall. The shed is currently located behind Lullworth Hall. The party will feature live music provided by HSH President Jessica Lucas and HSH member Matt Falciani. Light refreshments will be served.
